Artisans' Bios

Roycroft Artisan Bio    Chuck Wenninger

When I began woodworking, I searched through magazines and haunted furniture stores to gather ideas for projects. What I expected to be a drawn-out process turned out to be quite simple. I found an immediate and compelling match between my personality and beliefs and the furniture of the Arts & Crafts Movement.

Simplicity of design. Functionality. Sound construction techniques. This combination of principles has produced quality furniture pieces that have endured the tests of both taste and time. This choice does not allow me extensive design flexibility, but I enjoy the challenge of the construction process immensely. Besides, tampering with a style so admired and sought after seems unnecessary.

I build things that I like and find interesting, regardless of whether I have a place for them in my home or a customer ready to purchase. I select projects that fascinate me to the point that there is simply no choice – I just have to build them. I do accept a very small number of custom projects – please inquire.

Each item is one of a kind and is offered to you at a competitive price for the quality of materials and workmanship invested. It is my hope that you will find beauty and pleasure in these works, take them into your homes and into your lives, and enjoy them for many years to come.

“I cannot think of a better place to exhibit work based on the furniture designs of the Arts and Crafts Movement. Individuals from the person manning the cash register to the Executive Director all exhibit a sincere interest and commitment to the success of this operation.” – Chuck Wenninger
