What:     Richard Kegler – Printing and Binding a Roycroft Motto Book

When:    September 9 & 23 10am-5pm

Where:   Roycroft Campus Copper Shop

About:   A collaborative book featuring Mottos and Epigrams by Elbert Hubbard, hand set and bound by participants. Following the successful Book Arts weekend this past October, each participant will set and print their own epigram using the type and presses on site at the Copper Shop. All pages will be bound together with an oriental style hard-cover binding. All participants will keep their own finished book. This workshop is being held as a joint event with the Roycroft Campus Corporation and the Western New York Book Arts Collaborative.

Sat Sept 9 10-5 -- Hand set type and press work
Participants will select type and ornaments from the shop (or may bring their own) and hand set one or more of Elbert Hubbard's famous epigrams. Choices on composition will be explored along with hand printing on a platen press for eventual binding two weeks later.

Sat Sept 23 10-5 -- Hand binding of printed sheets.
Using the sheets printed previously, each participant will learn the fundamentals of turned edge hard cover books with specific focus on an adaptation of the oriental style binding.
