Roycroft
Book-Arts Weekend The first Roycroft books made at the Campus in over 60 years! Friday: Hand Papermaking About: About: Noted papermaker Peter Sowiski will demonstrate and instruct on the basic and finer points of traditional hand papermaking. The craft of hand papermaking was revived almost single handedly by one time Roycroft artist Dard Hunter. The technique dates back to the middle ages and continues to enjoy growth in popularity for artists and book enthusiasts who appreciate the unique qualities of handmade paper. Saturday, October 15th, 9am-5pm – Traditional Bookbinding -Essay on Silence
About: Master Bookbinders Brian Maloney and Richard Kegler will demonstrate and guide participants through traditional binding techniques towards the first Roycroft Books to be made on the Campus in over 60 years. The book will be a traditional European hand-stitched signature, hard-binding incorporating hand-printed title page. Each participant will take home a copy of the finished limited edition book as well as skills and resources to further explore binding on their own.

Screen Printing About: Roycroft Renaissance Master Artisan Dorothy Markert will teach her own technique of screen printing. The images will be painted directly on the screens and each color will be printed separately, one on top of the other to build up to the finished print. This method is in keeping with the Roycroft philosophy of hand craft. The screen printing supplies are all water based and non-toxic.
