Metalsmithing

What:     Ron van Ostrand The Art of Metalsmithing

When:    Friday-Sunday, July 13-15, 2007; Friday 7-9pm – Instructor’s Reception, Saturday & Sunday 9:00am to 3:00pm

Where:   Roycroft Campus Copper Shop

About:   Roycroft Master Artisan and Art instructor, Ron VanOstrand, will instruct a two-day workshop on the art of metalsmithing. Students will create several items that they will take with them using the same fundamental working skills employed by the Roycroft Copper Shop. Some sample projects are letter openers, key-chains, brooch style pins, and bookmarks. Skills will include hammering techniques, metal stamping, simple chasing, annealing, copper patination (Aurora Brown), and wax finishing.

Materials fee covers metal for projects, hearing protection, and consumables (sandpaper, gas, patina solution, saw blades, etc.)

Tools will be provided by and remain the property of the instructor.

If students have already taken another class with Ron, they can request a more challenging project with advanced approval.

Fees: $200 class fee* $50 materials fee
*Class fee includes Friday Nite Reception and 2 lunches
