How to Make Glass Beads
(with Artist, Vicki Schneider)
Sunday, April 8th from 1:00pm - 4:00pm
Turn hot glass into cool stuff! Join glass artisan Vicki Schneider at her beautiful studio for an introductory class in glass beadmaking. In just 3 hours you will make your own one-of-a-kind glass beads and enter the mystical and ancient world of “lampworking.” This workshop will introduce you to the art of safely melting and manipulating soft glass. During the class most students will create from 3-6 colorful beads they can later turn into jewelry.
This workshop does not take place on the Roycroft Campus, but at the instructor’s studio Expressive Glass (3333 Lake Shore Rd, Hamburg, NY 14219), near the Woodlawn Beach between the Ford and steel plants on Route 5. Students should wear clothes that are at least 80% natural fibers (not rayon or polyester), tie back long hair, wear closed shoes/sneakers, and do not wear loose necklaces or bracelets. No experience is necessary. All materials and supplies will be provided for the class. NOTE: Your work will not be available for pick up until 1-3 days after the class. If you prefer, your beads can be shipped to you for an additional $7.
Vicki Schneider’s fascination with glass dates back to a field trip she took as a young child to the Corning Museum of Glass. In 2006 she melted her first rod of glass and her love affair with flameworking began. Vicki has studied with some of the world’s most highly respected glass artists, including world-renown Venetian sculptors Emilio Santini and Lucio Bubacco. She opened Expressive Glass in 2009 to share her passion and introduce others to the magic of flameworking. Ms. Schneider is a NYS certified teacher and international speaker, and her work is sold at prestigious venues, including the GlassMarket at the Corning Museum of Glass, WheatonArts The Gallery of Fine Craft (Milville, NJ), and The Melting Point (Sedona, AZ.) In 2015, she was selected by Glassation.com as one of “18 Game-Changing Female Glass Artists.” She is a board member of the recently formed Arts and Craftsmen Guild.
