Summer Youth Class Offerings

June 25 - 26 Drawing I for Elementary Students (9:00-12:00) ($50)
Students will explore a variety of drawing techniques to strengthen their drawing abilities including: drawing from life, beginning shading techniques, using a viewfinder and drawing from your imagination. For students ages 8 – 11.
June 25 - 26 Drawing I for Middle/High School Students (1:00-4:00) ($50)
Students will explore a variety of drawing techniques to strengthen your drawing abilities including: drawing from life, using a grid, using a viewfinder, proportion and scale and advanced shading techniques. For students ages 12 and up.
June 27 - 28 Kaleidoscope Designs (9:00-12:00) ($50)
Kaleidoscopes are fascinating optical instruments that combine science, math and art. How they work will be discussed as well as the topic of radial symmetry. Students ages 8 – 11 will make a Kaleidoscope and create a radial drawing.
July 9 - 12 Word By Word – Creative Writing (10:00-12:00) ($80)
This youth program run by a local children’s author, will help your child expand on their writing skills. Students entering grades 5 - 8, who enjoy creative writing, will engage in a variety of activities around the historic Roycroft Campus.
July 11, 18, 25 & August 1 Summer Sketchbooking (6:00-9:00) ($70)
This weekly workshop is inspired by the journaling artist Danny Gregory’s work and community building. Each week, suggested exercises will help inspire ideas and encourage students to stretch beyond their comfort zone with materials and subject matter. Open to students entering grades 9 through Adult.
July 14 & 21 Felting Fun with Fiber Arts (10:00-12:00) ($55)
Students will learn about wool, how it is dyed and manipulated to create yarn. They will learn the wet and dry felting technique. The final product students will create, are four detailed coasters of their own design.
July 16, 18 & 20 Mosaic Mirror Frame (10:00-12:00) ($70)
This beginner to intermediate workshop will introduce children to the basic terminology and tools for making a mosaic. Students will create a 12x12 mosaic wall mirror. This three-day workshop will be open to students ages 8 through 15.
July 17-19 Sculpture is for Everyone (9:30-12:30) ($80)
This intermediate class explores sculpture with a construction of a 3-D or relief artwork created out of found objects, natural materials and metals. This three-day workshop will be open to students in 4th grade through adults.
July 23 & 24 Mono-Printing Plus (10:00-12:00) ($50)
This class will explore and combine mono-printing, stamping, and block printing to create a unique artwork. Often referred to as the most painterly method among printmaking. This workshop will be open to students in 3rd grade on up.
July 25- 27 Plaster-Craft Sculptures (10:00-12:00) ($60)
Students will explore the connection between form and movement as they create a sculpture of a human figure in motion, using plaster cloth as their medium This workshop will be open to students in 4th grade on up.
August 1 - 3 Bookmaking Explorations (10:00-12:00) ($70)
This three day class is designed to explore book arts. Each day student’s will learn different techniques to create a book; simple folds, accordion, pop-up and sewn to name just a few. For students in grades 3 – 8.
August 7 - 10 The Audition: Steps to the Stage (9:00-12:00) ($99)
This four day interactive performance workshop will take participants through the process of giving a successful audition. They will receive invaluable resources including a resume, headshot and critiques from our experts. For grades 9-12.
August 7 - 10 #iSing, #iCanSightread! (12:30-1:30) ($30)
This interactive class will focus on the basics of music reading as it relates to you, the singer. Participants will be guided through the basic sight reading process and practice – gaining tools to help with vocal sight reading. For grades 7-12.
August 13 - 14 Printmaking in a Pinch (10:00-1:00) ($70)
In this two day workshop, students will learn how to create their own hand-carved prints using small wood blocks or linoleum, followed by an easy tabletop hand-printing that requires no fancy equipment. For students ages 10 and up.
August 20 - 21 Drawing II for Elementary Students (9:00-12:00) ($50)
This class can be taken by students in the previously taught Drawing I class or it can be taken independently. Color will be explored in this class along with different subject matter from the previous class. For students ages 8 – 11.
August 20 - 21 Drawing II for Middle/High School Students (1:00-4:00) ($50)
This class can be taken by students in the previously taught Drawing I class or it can be taken independently. Color will be explored in this class along with different subject matter than the previous class. For students ages 12 and up.
August 22 - 23 Art & Optical Illusions (9:00-12:00) ($50)
Students will explore Op Art or the art of optical illusions. Drawing techniques, color theory and simple animation devices like zoetropes will be explored. Students ages 8 through 11 will make both two and three dimensional artwork.
