Welcome to The Fletcherizer, where we chew over the history, ideas, and personalities of the Roycroft Campus. Each month our team will dive into a Roycroftie topic, with plenty of features from our historic archive throughout the month. Stay tuned for a new feature each Friday, March’s topic is: A Message to Garcia.
The Fletcherizer Volume 2 Number 2
The hero of A Message To Garcia, Lieutenant Andrew Rowan, would make a little journey to visit Elbert Hubbard and the Roycroft Campus.
Rowan can be seen standing next to Hubbard in the back row, third from right.
Roycroft Artist, Jerome Connor, would even make a sketch of Rowan to decorate select editions of A Message to Garcia.
*Fletcherize is a term coined in the early 1900s by Dr. Horace Fletcher, meaning to chew one’s food properly for better health. Elbert Hubbard would adopt the term to represent chewing one’s thoughts before speaking.
