2 Day/2 Color Minimalist Painting from Life workshop – May 2 & 3, 2024

2 Day/2 Color Minimalist Painting from Life workshop

with Artist, Chris Liberti
2-Day Workshop on May 2nd & 3rd from 10:00am – 3:00pm

The Roycroft Campus – 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY

This workshop is designed for the minimalist in you. Students will use a limited number of tools and a complementary color palette (2 colors), your choice of either blue & orange, or green & red (plus white). The course is designed for all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Instruction will focus on materials, composition, approaches, and various painting techniques. It’s your choice to work from an interior view, window view or still life.

The construction of our foundation will start with two values. We’ll establish the core of our compositions, seeking out the large shapes while avoiding painting “things”. On the second day, we’ll dive deeper into the complexities of our subject’s values and color relationships. Magically, our buildings will become more recognizable (if we stay out of its way). A complementary color palette will help keep things simple and give us a better understanding of value and warm and cool color relationships.

Since painting is a personal activity and there is such a large variety of materials available, no supplies will be provided. Instead, students are asked to bring the materials that meet their individual tastes. Please click to see the Supply List. Lunch will not be supplied. Please feel free to bring a bagged lunch or something to snack on. If choosing a still life, bring in a few objects plus some fabrics. The objects themselves will not be a concern but more building blocks for the construction of our composition.
