A handmade artist’s book is a work of art in book form. Join us as we create our own artist book using the Concertina Book structure filled with our own monoprints. In the first class, students will create a series of Gelli Prints to later collage into our artist book.  Gelli Printing is a relatively new form of mono printing that uses flexible printing plates to create texture and layers of color. In the second class, each student will make a concertina book, sometimes known as an accordion book and collage in the Gelli prints made in the first class, along with other personal ephemera, objects, or text.

Students are encouraged to bring a variety of papers they might like to print on, and any personal ephemera to include in their books such as old letters, mail, photos, stamps, magazines, etc. Students may also bring any stencils they may have to the first class to use for Gelli printing. All other tools and supplies will be provided. Please feel free to bring a beverage and/or something to snack on.

Janet Nye Vedder has experience as a graphic artist, product illustrator, and art educator.  With a Masters in Education and twenty-two years of experience teaching art, she looks forward to teaching a variety of art classes on the Roycroft Campus.

As a Roycroft Artist-in-Residence, Janet currently has a studio in the Roycroft Print Shop where she creates her artwork.  Janet works primarily in watercolor and Chinese brush painting; however, she has a strong background in fiber arts and collage.

Class Tuition: $65 + $10 Supplies = Total $75
Registration is required and seating is limited. (Max. of 12 students)

This workshop is open to those ages 16 – adult
