Flowing Inspirations: Design & Composition Painting workshop

3-Day Workshop on Fridays, February 2nd, 9th, & 16th from 9:30am – 12:30pm

The Roycroft Campus – 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY

In this workshop, students will experiment with a random wash of color that will inspire a composition. Students will begin their design process creating flowing, textural shapes with ink, acrylic, watercolor, gouache and pastel – alcohol washes. Color harmony and design elements will be discussed while developing either an abstract composition or a composition based on a theme. Participants will draw and paint details within the preliminary composition for a focal point and compositional movement, using color and texture in design choices. Compositional themes might include aquatic, botanical, landscape, fauna, and/or architectural, or stream of consciousness. This class is open to those of any experience.

Since students have the option to work in the paint medium of their choice, all materials will be supplied by each individual. See the suggested Supply List.

Jennifer Koury is a Buffalo-based artist, freelance illustrator, and arts educator. She holds degrees in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and Art Center College of Design, California and has been teaching at various Art Centers around the area.

Koury is represented by Meibohm Fine Arts, East Aurora, NY. She has exhibited her paintings in both solo and group shows around the region, and won awards, including being finalist in the Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art. Her art is featured in the NFWS Mary Whyte Gallery Walk video, George Washington’s Mount Vernon Visitor Center in Virginia, and Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona, and her illustrations have appeared in many children’s books. She is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, and a signature member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.
