In this Intermediate necklace class, we will work on advancing dexterity with wire, continue our discussion on proper construction of cold connection components, and delve into layering of wire elements. Students will construct the necklace pictured, and upon arrival will have a choice between Lapis Lazuli or Garnet beads with which to work. All supplies are provided to make this piece, including a chain to finish the necklace. Additionally, students will receive a printed tutorial booklet that contains instructions for making this piece again independently, as well as material on other wire tips that will be applicable to the project. PLEASE NOTE: You must have successfully completed the Beginner Wire workshop before enrolling in this class.
All materials and tools needed for the workshop are provided. The tools will remain the property of the instructor. The tool set (cutters, 5 styles of pliers, chasing hammer, bench block, polish cloth, 1 file and 1 buffer) will be available for students if they are interested in purchasing at an additional $95. Students are highly recommended to bring magnification (reading) glasses. Lunch will not be supplied. Please feel free to bring a bagged lunch or something to snack on.
After a background in Graphic Art, Stacy Smith experimented with a variety of media before settling on wire wrapped jewelry. In 2017 she was juried into the Arts and Craftsmen Guild on the Roycroft Campus and has since been a member of their steering committee. She has won several awards through the years, most recently Best in Show at the American Craftsmen Artisan Festival (Kenan Center) 2022, and Best in Jewelry 2022 Letchworth Festival of the Arts. She has taught both public and private classes and has written several tutorials.
Class Tuition: $75 + $20 Supplies = Total $95
Registration is required and seating is limited. (Max. of 8 students)
This workshop is open to those ages 18 – adult
