Now Featured in the Copper Shop Gallery Loft: Howard Miller

Howard Miller was born in Olean, New York in 1954. He moved to Boston, NY when he was six years old. Throughout his adult life, Howard has lived in Miami, South Korea, and Buffalo, but ultimately settled back in Boston, NY in the late 80s.
Miller is a self-taught wood worker & photographer who reached Roycrofters at Large Association (R.A.L.A.) ‘Master’ artist status in his career.
He draws inspiration from three photographers; Ansel Adams, Nevada Weir, and Doug Landreth. Inspired by Landreth, Miller employs a merging technique in his digital images where he combines different textures to achieve a specific mood or feel. His infrared series, inspired by Nevada Weir, shows how the world changes in the invisible spectrum of light waves. Miller‘s black and white photographs are inspired by Ansel Adams. His technique shows extreme contrast in images with no color: very black blacks and bright whites.
Howard Miller’s work captures the subtle moments that exist while wandering unusual places, specifically derelict urban areas. He is fascinated by old factories and dilapidated buildings with interesting architecture. He enjoys exploring subjects that are both traditionally beautiful and not. The goal is to make those who view his work see interest in things that are typically overlooked.
In his career, Miller has worked extensively with The Darwin Martin House for photography & wood working. He was privileged to be asked to shoot the 2016 calendar for the Martin House. He has won several awards for photography including: Best in Show at the East Aurora Art Society, an award in the Syracuse Columbus circle show, and various art shows in the North East.
The exhibition will be on display during business hours: Tuesday – Saturday 11am-5pm from March 28 – July 5, 2025.
