October 6 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm EDT$250.00
Outdoor Painting workshop
with Artist, Chris Liberti
2-Day Workshop on Friday & Saturday, October 6th & 7th from 10:00am – 4:00pm
The Roycroft Campus – 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY
Chris Liberti will be teaching a two-day outdoor painting workshop centered around the distillation (simplification) of a painting within the (complex) outdoor environment. The course is designed for all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced students. The workshop will focus instruction on the formal elements of painting (composition, color, value, shape, surface). In the event there is rain, we will work under a shelter or indoors using window views.
On our first day we will visit our outdoor location to search for our compositions using small, quick thumbnail sketches to loosely determine what it is we would like to explore with paint. We’ll then take those sketches back to the studio and work from both the sketch and memory to construct our basic building blocks of our foundations, focusing on the atmosphere of what we saw and felt.
On the second day we’ll bring our paintings to the outdoor location and work atop the first layer. The landscape can seem overwhelming when immersed in it. We will be seeking “what’s important” in the landscape, distilling all these distractions down to what is meaningful for our paintings to sing.
We will be using a limited palette, see the Supply List. This will help us to expand our knowledge of color theory with the added benefit of keeping things simple while painting in a complex environment. Lunch will not be supplied. Please bring a bagged lunch or something to snack on. There will be some light hiking involved, please dress accordingly.
Raised and educated on the East Coast, Chris Liberti studied Fine Arts (painting) at Buffalo State College. He shows extensively both nationally and internationally including England, New York, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Washington, and Georgia. He has taught workshops throughout the US and Italy. He has been exhibiting in East Aurora at Meibohm Fine Arts since 2016 and is a studio member of the Castiglia Art Center at the Roycroft Campus.
