Printing Botanicals on Textiles Two-Ways: Force & Light

Learn how to use cyanotype to capture a floral composition using cyanotype, a manual photographic printing process used to create print patterns. This process was used for almost 200 years to capture images using sunlight and a photosensitive solution that turns simple fabric into a printable surface so anyone can create original prints with definition and an intense shade of blue. In this class we’ll work with prepared sheets, pressed flowers and a variety of other organic materials to create botanical-based compositions. While prints develop, students will also learn how to imprinting blossoms into fabric using nothing but fresh blooms and greenery and a household hammer to express pigments, commonly referred to as “Flower Pounding.”

A brief primer on mordanting and natural dyes is also included.  Floral Textile Art, Two Processes. All supplies are included. You are highly recommended to wear appropriate clothing while working with dyes.

Tami Fuller is a second-generation fine fiber artist and educator. Her work integrates the traditional foundations of hand-constructed processes with modern techniques, using foreign objects and metal. She operates her own fiber arts and education company, Blubird Studio, teaching throughout WNY and into the Northeast. Ms. Fuller is an exhibiting member of the Buffalo Society of Artists and a 2021 Roycroft Emerging Artist. She was recently appointed Executive Director of the Roycrofters-at-Large and is also the primary fiber art event coordinator for the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
