“Life without industry is guilt. Industry without art is brutality.” – Elbert Hubbard
It’s easy to justify the worship of progress in our modern world. We want things to work, and work faster with more features. When a device or process (or, sadly at times, a person) becomes “obsolete”, it is disposed of, recycled, or repurposed. We crave easy living, simple explanations, and a world that welcomes and embraces us. Yet, discontent abounds in our personal hearts and our public discourse.
With so much at stake, who has time for “nonsense” like beauty?
Unless beauty is a critical balancing force to the appetite and excess of pure progress.
But, “What really is the value of beauty?”
“Does beauty have utility in its own right?”
“Does it actually present solutions to the looming challenges of our day?”
“How might appreciating and recognizing beauty impact our lives and communities in private and in public?”
You’re asking some great questions, friend.
You should join us for an evening of lively discussion centered on this topic. We will hang on thoughts from the following panelists:
- Jalen Law (artist, entrepreneur, and educator)
- Brandon Watson (photographer, community organizer, and educator)
- Owen Ó Súilleabháin (Singer, storyteller, leadership coach, and poet)
- Alan Nowicki (Director of Programming for the Roycroft Campus and art educator)
Intentional time will be allocated for all gathered to discuss these topics with each other and the panelists. Social refreshments will be served. (Wrestling with weighty topics is thirsty work!)
Save your seat by registering today. Then invite someone you believe would enjoy an evening of exploration in an environment curated for creativity in community.
