Water-Media Still Life: Exploration of Forms & Color workshop

5-Day Workshop on Thursdays, November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th & December 7th from 9:30am – 12:30pm

The Roycroft Campus – 21 South Grove St. East Aurora, NY

Fruits, Vegetables, Flora, Transparent Glass, and the Unusual: Come explore the contrasting forms and colors of the still life art form, for a weekly class to expand the “fruits” of your labor. Using unique shapes- transparent, opaque, and reflective objects, and thick, thin and voluptuous plants, the instructor will discuss form, highlights, core shadows and cast shadows. Begin with a weekly demo exploring techniques, and similar characteristics unique to water-media including Gouache on board, Watercolor on paper, Watercolor and ink on board, Acrylic/watercolor on Lux Archival with pastel and alcohol washes.

Students are asked to bring the water-media of your choice. Use one medium, or combine several for mixed media results, while receiving instructor input. Easels and tables are supplied by the Castiglia Art Center. All other materials will be supplied by each individual. See the suggested Supply List.

Jennifer Koury is a Buffalo-based artist, freelance illustrator, and arts educator. She holds degrees in painting and printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University and Art Center College of Design, California and has been teaching at various Art Centers around the area.

Koury is represented by Meibohm Fine Arts, East Aurora, NY. She has exhibited her paintings in both solo and group shows around the region, and won awards, including being finalist in the Chautauqua Annual Exhibition of Contemporary Art. Her art is featured in the NFWS Mary Whyte Gallery Walk video, George Washington’s Mount Vernon Visitor Center in Virginia, and Yuma Regional Medical Center in Arizona, and her illustrations have appeared in many children’s books. She is a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists, and a signature member of the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society.
