The Roycroft Campus Film Society invites you to a screening of the 2019 documentary Apollo 11 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the lunar landing. This is our sixth and final title in our series around the theme of “the Hero”.
The film consists solely of archival material, including 70 mm film of never-before-seen footage and audio recordings which reveal the inner workings of NASA’s most celebrated mission as astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins embark on their historic 1969 trip to the moon. The lack of contemporary narration, modern recreations, or interviews creates a time machine back to a specific point in human history when the entire world looked up.
The film premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was praised by the critics, currently holding a 99% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviews included the comments “takes your breath away,” “quite spectacular,” and “entirely awe-inspiring.” Critic Matt Zoller Seitz stated, “Films this completely imagined and ecstatically realized are so rare that when one comes along, it makes most other movies, even the good ones, seem underachieving.”
Apollo 11 will be shown on the second Sunday in March, the 10th at 4:00 pm at Roycroft Power House, 39 South Grove St. in East Aurora. Please join us and stay for the discussion afterwards.
