Description

Marsha Van Vlack lives and works in her home studio in Whitesville, NY. Surrounded by a vast forest, Van Vlack gives credit to nature and the simple use of the human hand as her biggest influences of her work.

Van Vlack enjoys creating pottery that is useful and practical for everyday life while adding carvings and designs that reflect the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau styles, and her newest venture has been experimenting with low fire raku, saggar and barrel firing techniques. Firing her works at lower temperatures and the use of organic materials in each process creates a more primitive and natural feel while allowing her to experiment with different elements of sculpture, jars, vases and wall pieces.

Over the past 45 years, Marsha Van Vlack has made stoneware tiles for installations in homes, schools, libraries and businesses and has been awarded with several Community Art Grants for her work. She is also proud to have been a Roycroft Master Artisan and named a Master Craftsmen for the 100 American Craftsmen at the Kenan Center in Lockport, NY.

When she isn’t exhibiting or installing her own works, she is teaching at the Wellsville Creative Arts Center in Wellsville, NY or hosting workshops in her home studio. She is proud to have her works sold at numerous galleries and to have her studio open to the public during the Allegany Artisans Studio Tour every October.
