William S. Rice’s elegant yet humble block prints faithfully portray California landscapes in all seasons. An avid outdoorsman, Rice found enduring inspiration in nature—from tempestuous Pacific seascapes to dramatic mountain ranges. In 1900 the Pennsylvania native set out west across the continent. The golden state’s forests, mountains, and coastline became the primary subjects for his photography, sketches, and paintings. Later in his studio, some of those images became the basis of his block prints. Journey up the West Coast and inland with the 12 block prints collected for this calendar.
