Helene Arendt’s connection to the creative world comes from her grandfather “Opa” who continues to inspire her to see the natural beauty in nature. By watching and learning from this master cabinet maker, Arendt began to see the grain, the subtle color, the texture, the uniqueness and magic in each piece of wood. She uses this process when she creates each unique one-of-a-kind design. Arendt often stops in the middle of creating a piece to listen to what it is telling her and she then allows the peice to create itself rather than forcing her ideas upon it.
As her craft continues to develop, she is able to see the magic that inspired Opa working through her in each piece of copper, silver and brass.Arendt says she senses Opa’s spirit and feels the synergy and the creativity start to bubble up inside of her and inspire her. The sound of age-old methods of silversmithing can be heard in her shop every day as she hammers, saws, pierces, files, forges and solders these metals into her own creations. In a time where so much is mass produced, her attention to detail and commitment to quality is uncommon and personally rewarding, just as it was for her Opa.
Arendt’s gallery consists of completely original one-of-a-kind custom designs. They are all unique items, and no two pieces will ever be exactly the same but the basic design style in each can be replicated. Once a piece is sold, there is yet another waiting to be created…
