The Press Room

The Roycroft Campus Press and Printmaking Department is buzzing with new life as we revive the rich traditions of book arts and handcrafted printmaking. We not only make beautiful things, we’re building a space for artists, makers, and lovers of human-made work to gather and celebrate the kind of craftsmanship that brings community to the page. This is the only place (that we know of!) where you can step right onto the “factory floor” and see where and how your book purchase is created.

 

Our Press Room & Shop are open Wednesday through Saturday, 11–4, and if you stop in on a Friday between 12–3, you can catch our amazing volunteers painting and finishing products by hand. From our oldest press dating back to the 1880s to our “newest” from the 1960s, we’re using the same time-honored techniques the original Roycrofters once did and we’d love to share it all with you.

Products

Our shop is a little different. In a world where everyone has something to sell, we take the time to consider not just how well something is made, but whether it’s something that truly adds value to the world, including the resources it takes to create it.

All of our products are made by hand using late 19th-century technology, not out of nostalgia, but because that method results in unmatched quality. And it’s not just the products that benefit from this approach, so do our artisans and the communities they’re a part of. You can find our items for sale right in the Press Room (inside the Print Shop Building), as well as at our beautiful gift shop, The Copper Shop. We also have a selection of items available online.

Interested in getting involved behind the scenes? The Roycroft Campus Press offers unique volunteer opportunities that are a fun and meaningful way to become part of the Roycroft Campus community. Whether you’re looking to build your skills in watercolor, printing, or book arts—or you’re fascinated by the mechanics of old presses and want to help with upkeep—there’s a place for you here. It’s a grassroots effort to create beautiful, handcrafted items, and we welcome all kinds of creative energy.
